Children will write daily as part of the class Programme. During this year we will explore many different written genre, including, narrative, exposition, recount, explanation, report and many different forms of poetry.
This term we will focus on Procedure Writing, Persuasive texts, Speeches and Narratives.

Year 6 English Skills - Year 6 Objectives (with examples) We are learning to: (Speeches) *Speak clearly in front of an audience. * Brainstorm, plan and write a speech that entertains or informs, demonstrating evidence of the five main components (introduction, body, conclusion, purpose and audience) * Students will present a speech that holds the interest of their audience using using appropriate pauses, gesture, props, and varying pitch and pace. Speech information (Topics + marking criteria) Mr C's Sample Speech We are Learning to: (Recount) Specific Learning Outcomes: * Identify the purposes of a recount text * Use accepted recount structure - Orientation, background information - who, when, where, what and why - Appropriate and relevant information selected - Time sequenced events * Use appropriate language features (nouns and pronouns) - To identify things - action verbs when discussing events - past tense to locate time - relevant info included - adjectives to describe nouns We are learning to: (Narrative) Specific Learning Outcomes: * Identify the purpose of a narrative text. * Use accepted narrative structure - Orientation, setting the scene and introducing characters - Introduce an unexpected problem - Solving of the problem * Use appropriate language features for a narrative (verbs, adjectives, adverbs, past tense, dialogue). Top layer (Bun) = appetising introduction
Middle Layers (Fillings) = ideas /main points
